CLARITY Researchers at National ICT Showcase

CLARITY researchers were among the contingent of Irish academics and high potential start-ups who showcased their technology wares at Enterprise Ireland's ICT commercialisation showcase event held in the SAS Radisson in Dublin’s city centre on 6th October 2008. This annual event is a forum for demonstrating the outputs of publicly funded ICT research projects to over 200 companies with an interest in commercialising technology developed by leading Irish universities. The event  consisted of a number of short overview presentations, poster sessions and a demonstration area to display technologies. The technologies showcased by CLARITY researchers included robust person detection and tracking in highly occluded real world scenes, low-power media processing for mobile devices and real-time person and object localisation based on fusing multiple complementary sensor data streams.

"Working closely with Enterprise Ireland and participating in events like the ICT showcase is extremely important for CLARITY", says Prof. Noel O'Connor. "It helps us to explore potential commercialisation routes for some of the outputs of our basic research, and getting in touch with relevant Irish SMEs is particularly important in this regard", he goes on to say. "The event was a huge success with a number of companies and investors expressing interest in commercialising the DCU technologies on show", stated Paddy O’Boyle, Invent DCU, who coordinated DCU’s involvement in the event.
